Final WEEK (week 8)

This week is my final week in work placement, I really going miss them a lot . In this post I will write what i really learned during my work placement in Dubai Public Library. First, I learned how to communicate with the people and how can i treat when they are angry about something. Also, I learned how to be confident with people in how I talk or how I behave.

The work I did during this week is the same work I did during the last 3 weeks.
I work on my suggestion which is to record the name, numbers and e-mail of each students. Moreover, I continued working in printing the report of each student and put it in their folder with their skill card.

Day 35

What i did:

- I suggested to record all the students name phone numbers and name in excel sheet to make it easier when we want search for any student.

- print the reports of the exam and record the one who pass, each one on his own skill card

Day 34

What i did:

- watch how the exam is in the ICDL Center
-copy some certificate put it in their folder.
-make phone calls for the people who have to come and take their certificates

Day 33

what i did is go to the hall to see how "Rana" is teaching the students and learn about the presentation skills.

Day 32

My task for today was to call the students and inform that the test on Wednesday has been canceled. After calling the students, “ALIA” showed me the official website of the ICDL and she showed me how to use it and the features on it .Also, she showed me how to make an account for new register. Moreover, she showed me how the student can log in to the website and how they can take the tests or practice.

Day 31

What I did :
-Today we have to calculate the bills and to make sure that the money is correct because today the person who is responsible of collecting the money will come and pick up the bills and the money.

-Also, my task for today was to write on the skill card the person who fails and who pass the exam which was held on Saturday by checking the report sheet which is saved in the system.

Day 30

What I did:
· Put the skill card on apathetical order in their folders
· Photocopy some important documents
· Take out the phone number of the students to call them and told them that they can come and take their certificates

Day 29

I finished designed the logo and today I print it out and cut it to fit the size of the folder. “Aliaa” was helping me on doing that. Then, we take out all the folders and remove the entire old label and put the new label instead.

Day 28

Today I designed labels for the important folders in the ICDL Center because the old labels are designed with the old logo and we have to change it with the new logo.
After that the employees in the children section they needed help because they have a visit from school. So, I asked my supervisor if I can go and help and he said yes I can.

Day 27

Today a new group of people will come for attending the first class in ICDL Center. Yesterday, “Aliaa” showed me the books and the notebook for the new students and today I went to the store and prepared 6 books and 6 notebooks for the new students and put it in the ICDL hall.
In addition, “Aliaa” assigned me to scan a passport copy and a picture for the new students and then save on the service.

Day 26

Today im going to work in the ICDL Center , first when I arrived there I sign and went to the ICDL Center , the people who I will work with and who will train me are “Rna” , “Aliaa” and my supervisor is Mr.Adel.
“Aliaa” talked to me about the procedures of ICDL. I learned how people can book for a test or sign on learning courses for ICDL and prices for each course. Also I have a background about the ICDL and how they bring it in UAE.

Day 25

Day : Thursday
Date:16th May 2010

I designed a return date card because the old one needed to be change. After I designed it a make about 150 copies of the card and started to cut it and I spend all my day in doing that.

Day 24

Day: Wednesday
Date: 15th May 2010

Today, there is a problem in the network and all of the employees are feeling bored.
i Set on information desk and helping the visitors.

Day 23

"Alia" and "Zahra" the employees who are working today. In the morning we check the news paper and I put in their places . Moreover, yesterday, we moved books to make space and today we are going to move the new books form the "Arrival books" section to put it on the empty shelves.

"Alia" continue working in moving books me and "Zahra" take down the new books from the shelves and put each category together. After doing that my next job is to take group of books and organize it on the shelves and make sure that the books sorted in a correct way.

Day 22

Day:Monday
Date:3rd May 2010

Monday was a long working day we spend all the time on moving the books. So, me and "ALIA" worked together to move the books to make space for new books it was really hard work to do because we have to carry and move the books from section to another by ourselves. At the end of the day we finally manage and move all the books and organize them by it categories.

Day 21

This week is my final week in this department and next week I'm going to work on ICDL Centre. I'm really very excited because I'm going to learn many things


What I did on Sunday:
· Open the internet for the customers
· Work on the suggestions for e-library
· I helped "HESSA" with calculating bills

Day 20

Today, a customer needed help, he wanted to scan the paper and send it to somebody via email. So, I scan his paper and helped him by sending the paper. And he was very pleased because I helped him. Then, I helped "SABRA" because she has a visit from Al-Noor school and kids with special needs. After doing that, I set on the information desk and see if anybody need help.

Day 19

Today me "MAHA" receive new books from the Central Library. Then, we make sure that we receive all the books. After that, we insert the books into the system by using Horizon program and we organize it on the shelves where they put the new arrival books.

Also, I continue working on the suggestions for the e-library.
